Visual Communications Training

Train for new visual communications career opportunities

Students in our Visual Communications training program can receive hands-on instruction that could help prepare them for new opportunities in their chosen career fields. As a student, you can select from specific career training among the three Visual Communications programs offered at Brown College.

The Visual Communications programs include the Associate of Science program where students get a solid foundation in the art of communicating visually; the Graphic Design emphasis, allowing students to work with print material; and the Multimedia emphasis, where students can learn about communicating through emerging technology.

Career training in the Graphic Design emphasis includes classes where students can:

  • Design and construct product packaging. Creating packaging is a realistic exercise where you can learn how to deal with the challenges of designing in 3D and creating material that is both aesthetically-pleasing and functional.
  • Develop new branding for an established company. This can teach you how to develop logos, color schemes and an identity that communicate a clear message.
  • Use industry-current digital illustration tools like Adobe Photoshop to create art for today’s industry.

Career training in the Multimedia emphasis includes classes where students can:

  • Plan, shoot and edit their own videos digitally. These classes are designed to teach you how new digital technology is impacting traditional video.
  • Learn interactive media like Adobe Flash and Actionscript. You can take advantage of opportunities to use the latest industry technology to create true interactive software.
  • Animate 3D objects and graphics. You can learn how to integrate this 3D animation into both video and interactive software.

At the end of each program, students can complete a professional portfolio that illustrates their Visual Communications career training. A quality portfolio can show that they’ve had real life experience and help them impress potential employers and pursue freelance design projects.
