School of Broadcasting Brown’s DNA is broadcasting. Richard and Helen Brown started the School of Broadcasting in 1946 to train young men and women for careers in the emerging field of Radio Broadcasting. In the 1950s, television changed communication forever. Brown responded with the addition of the Television Production program in 1954. Today, technology – including the Internet, streaming audio, on-demand video, satellite radio and podcasts – is fueling a communications revolution. And this revolution is creating opportunities for people who can produce the audio and video messages to feed an information-hungry world. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul comprise one of the nation’s largest media markets. You’ll find Brown alumni on the air and behind the scenes at a number of radio and television station in both towns.
