Upon completing a medical assistant degree program students have a range of possibilities ahead of them. Whether you choose to pursue career opportunities within a variety of related healthcare fields, or go on to get further certification, the choice is yours.

Medical Assistant Certification

After graduating from the Medical Assistant degree program at Brown College, you are eligible to take a certification exam that can help give you a more competitive edge in the job market.

The Registered Medical Assistant examination (RMA) is a test offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). This type of credential is nationally recognized and while it is optional, it can help enhance employment opportunities.

Career Opportunities for Medical Assistants

There are a variety of career opportunities for professionals in the medical assisting field. The duties of a medical assistant can change depending on the type of healthcare facility they are employed in, creating diverse opportunities within the field. Some career options include working for a variety of doctors:

• Chiropractors
• Pediatricians
• Allergists
• Optometrists
• General practitioners

Most medical assistant professionals choose to work in private doctor’s offices, but there are also career opportunities available in both inpatient and outpatient departments of a hospital.

It is also possible for medical assistants to find positions working for a variety of other healthcare facilities, including:

• Residential care facilities
• In-state and local government agencies
• Clinics
