Interested in working with industry- current computer technology? Students in our Information Technology degree program work in industry-current labs every single day. Through class projects, they can discover how the newest technology works, and how to fix it when things go wrong. Because of all the practical experience offered through our IT program, students can grow confident in their abilities and take on increasingly difficult projects. Here are just a few of the information technology classes offered at Brown College:
This Information Technology class provides students with a framework for the planning, implementation and management of an information technology project. Project management is discussed from both a technical and behavioral perspective. The focus of this course is on management.
This Information Technology course examines the key concepts of Information Systems Security Design and Maintenance. The course examines the processes necessary to define and design a Security Plan for an organization’s information technology infrastructure. Students explore procedural areas for data, network and server security, as well as analyzing risks to these systems. Strategies for administrating, backing-up, recovering, and monitoring Information Security Systems will also be explored.
This Information Technology class deals with current issues and future trends in information technology. The course examines the impact of these trends and issue on organizations, their operation, growth strategies and plans for the future.
This is a project-based Information Technology course that focuses on managing multiplatform network environments. Students are presented with, and asked to solve problems common to cross-platform environments, including the implementation of directory services, network monitoring and analysis, and managing secure multiplatform environments. This course provides students with a means of applying knowledge and skills acquired in the previous parts of the program to solve advanced and potentially complex networking and administrative problems. Students work on various network management projects that will serve as a final exam for the course.
This Information Technology class focuses on providing students with tools and techniques to be able to manage requirements. Mismanaged requirements are one of the top reasons software development projects fail. Students focus on working with customers in order to identify requirements, defining roles and responsibilities for the project team in requirements gathering, and accommodating requirements.
