Health Information Technician Classes

In addition to general education courses, a sampling of the Health Information Technician classes offered Brown College include:

• Introduction to ICD Coding – This course is designed to teach students the basics of the International Classification of Diseases coding principles. There are a variety of topics discussed in this Health Information Technician course, including medical coding reference manuals, insurance claim forms and matching procedures.
• Healthcare Reimbursement and Delivery Systems – In this Health Information Technician class, students can learn the uses of coded data and health information in reimbursement and payment systems for all healthcare settings. The course covers a broad spectrum of topics, including organization, regulation, and the evaluation of fraudulent billing practices.
• Diagnostic and Procedure Coding – There are several courses devoted to teaching students a variety of coding and classification systems. There is a strong focus on properly documenting insurance claims and medical records.
