Health Information Technician Certification

After completing a health information technician degree program students are encouraged to use the skills they have learned to complete a variety of certification tests given by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).

While certifications are not mandatory, obtaining a certification can enhance employment opportunities by making you a more competitive candidate for a position. A couple certifications graduates of the Health Information Technician degree program at Brown College are eligible for include:

  • Certified Coding Associate examination (CCA)
  • Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice examination (CPC-Apprentice)

Other exams offered by these agencies may require significant additional work experience and/or graduation from a program accredited by AHIMA.
