Why Should You Consider Criminal Justice School?

Are you considering enrolling in a criminal justice school? At Brown College, we provide a Criminal Justice Program that helps prepare our students for a number of entry-level jobs in criminal justice fields. We offer two tracks, an associate of Applied Science degree and a bachelor of science degree path. The AAS degree in Criminal Justice is designed to be completed in as little as 18 months. Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science degree program can be completed in as little as 36 months. Both programs are designed to help prepare you for an exciting new career and open many doors for you. Among the jobs you could pursue upon completion of your Criminal Justice program are:

Community Corrections

Many Criminal Justice program graduates work in community corrections. Community corrections are intensive correctional programs for non-violent criminals, like halfway houses. Programs like this work by placing rehabilitating offenders in a structured and supervised environment, and then gradually reintroducing them to society. The goal is to help non-violent develop personal and financial stability by finding jobs and housing, and then gradually releasing them from community correction supervision.

Correctional Officers

A career as a correctional officer may be a possibility after the completion of a Criminal Justice program. Correctional officers are generally in charge of overseeing criminals who are awaiting trial or who are in jail or prison for crimes committed. They are tasked to enforce the rules of the institution in which they work, and must ensure the safety of the staff and the criminals, working to prevent crimes, assaults, and even escapes. Unlike police officers, correctional officers generally have no law enforcement responsibilities beyond their place of work.

Private Security Positions

Private security opportunities are available in many different businesses, residences and industries. Work as a security guard in a shopping center, mall, club, museum, hospital or nearly any area. Work to protect visitors, employees and property from assault and other crimes. With completion of a Criminal Justice program at Brown College, graduates could apply for many private security positions.
